New Microsoft Zune Released

The latest version of Microsofts Zune digital music player has been put into production.

The new Zune touch screen HD will be able to download high definition video to be watched on the new LED display, that boasts superior quality. The New HD Zune will try and compete with the Apple Ipod touch by offering touch screen functions, wifi access and potential for implementation of aps. The Zune is currently only on sale in the US, at $220 (£133) for the 16 GB version and $290 (£175) for 32 GB.

Features:
  • WiFi Access
  • Organic LED Screen
  • Web Browser
  • Radio Receiver

It comes standard with a handful of applications such as a calculator, and Microsoft has said that later in the year it will release a number of free applications such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as a number of games.
Al in all the Zune HD has some great features that will be impressive to see if they make a splash. With the Apple Nano releasing the new video function, will the Zune have enough to offer against its competition? The age old question remains: Zune vs iPod.

APPLE RULES THE TECHNOLOGY ROAD: WHERE HAS ZUNE BEEN HIDING?

Is Apple King of the MP3?

With the introduction of Apple's iPod, users have been introduced to a new way of thinking in the MP3 market. The market has changed so dramatically with Apple's products, which now hold 50% of the market with the Windows based PC, that thinking back to a time with no iPods, instantly accessible podcasts and songs at$.99 is hard. Apple users are biased, we know that from the snobbishly pungent attitude they have when asked what type of computer they have. I have to say that I, too, am an Apple fan. I have an iPhone, iPod, I am typing this on a shiny Macbook Pro and I too, at times, gain an air of sophistication when speaking about them. But the fact of the matter is that from an unbiased, objective point of view they are just better - smoother, more intuitive, less problematic and, let's face it, sexy, from the interface to the way Apple systems work.

So the question is, where has the Zune been hiding?

The iPod and what I think to be the "soon to take over" MP3 handling gadget, the iPhone, have ingrained an image into everyone's head so distinctly that any other competitor is going to have a hard time bulking up their fan base, but Zune is doing surprisingly well. Zune sold over 1 million last year, which is more than Apple sold in iPods the first year they were introduced. Don't get me wrong, there is a clear distinction between the Zune vs. iPod sales with the Apple iPod selling over 100 million last year. But the Zune has a lot to offer that shouldn't be overlooked and is being positively received.

EVEN THOUGH I FEEL THAT ALL APPLE PRODUCTS ARE BETTER

The Zune offers a couple really great featured:

• Wireless sync
• Built in FM tuner
• 120 GB of storage
• Wireless Zune to Zune sharing
